Program Statement

Develop the practical, applied knowledge needed to effect change in the higher education landscape.

Georgetown’s Master of Professional Studies in Higher Education Administration prepares you with the practical, applied knowledge needed to transition into roles of increasing responsibility within the field of higher education.

Through a blend of focused study and hands-on practice, you will develop a 360-degree perspective of the U.S. higher education landscape and the specialized expertise needed to effect change. You will also have opportunities to connect with some of the nation’s leading higher education experts and organizations through real-world client engagements and case studies.

Our program examines the full scope of functions across a wide variety of higher education institutions. You will focus on not only the central role of operations, but also the related responsibilities within key areas such as academic advising, admissions, student affairs, and alumni relations. You will also have the opportunity to further hone your skills in one of two optional focus areas—student affairs or administration. There is also the option to build your own customized focus area.

Ethics is a cornerstone of our program. You’ll study foundational principles and best practices while exploring the connections between applied ethics, leadership, change management, and organizational culture. You’ll also create a personal leadership development plan that you can use as a roadmap for continued growth and success after graduation.

Ideal for working professionals, our program is designed to fit your schedule. We offer flexible options to take classes online, on campus, or through a combination of both—so you don’t have to interrupt your career to earn your degree.

Upon completing the program, you’ll be positioned to become a forward-thinking practitioner that adds value to institutions and advances the mission of higher education.
