Dr. Casandra Harper MorrisProgram Statement
The mission of the higher education program is to prepare reflective practitioners, leaders, and scholars who can critically contribute to the improvement of local and global higher education for the public good through research, policy, and practice. In addition to our master's degrees (MA, MEd), PhD, and graduate certificate in higher education, we also offer an EdD in Educational Leadership (PK-20+ program, distance/online) and an online graduate certificate in college teaching.
The purpose of the master's degree programs in higher education is two-fold: 1) to prepare students for professional administrative leadership positions in a variety of higher education settings; and 2) to provide a foundation for intellectual engagement. The curriculum is developed to meet the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education’s (CAS) Professional Standards for Higher Education and are guided by the ACPA & NASPA professional competencies. We have two concentration areas within the master's degree programs: student affairs leadership and higher education leadership. Students in the MEd program complete a capstone paper and meeting with faculty during the final semester of coursework, and MA students complete a thesis.
