Program Statement

MA Degree: The Higher Education/Student Personnel track in the Educational Leadership MA program is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in student personnel administration in higher education and education-related fields. (39 credits)

EDD Degree:  The Higher Education track in the Educational Leadership Ed.D. program has been designed to broaden the administrative knowledge and skills of higher education professionals who bring to the program a prior experience in higher education and prior discipline specialization (a master's degree). (63 credits)

PHD Degree: (75 credits) The Higher Education track in the Education Ph.D. program is designed for applicants who have extensive experience as faculty, administrators or staff in postsecondary institutions who want to pursue careers as scholars and leaders. This program track will broaden the analytical skills necessary to contribute to the advancement of the field of higher education through research, administration and teaching. The students in this program are considered future leaders interested in intensive study of the organizational and policy issues influencing the diverse sector comprising contemporary American postsecondary education.

EDD and PHD Distinctives: Our program emphasizes a dynamic focus on research and theory and practice to inform current professional application, growing academic learning, and preparation for dissertation and continuing research. In addition, our experienced and talented faculty are dedicated to mentoring higher education doctoral students through the many changes included during their studies across and within academic, professional and intellectual development.

Students admitted to the doctoral programs are typically employed in teaching, research, and administrative positions in community colleges and universities or education related agencies locally, nationally or internationally. Our students and alumni are leaders of higher education administration, student services, faculty and support from directors to staff, VPs to CEOs, and faculty positions.

EDD and PHD Timeline to Completion: Our doctoral students can reasonably expect to complete the program in the equivalent of three years of full-time study. If students are enrolled part-time, the time span could be three to six years.
